This is THE pipe for your 2009-2012 Vmax. Let’s cut to the core in styling and symmetry. When factory Yamaha evolved the generation one Vmax to bring this V-FOUR MUSCLE BIKE into the millennium, they wanted to keep as many of the signature components as they could which identify the bike as the KING OF THE CRUISERS.
The signature scoops have evolved into a fuel car injector face, thumbs up! The shaft drive, although not my personal taste remained as well. The V-Four engine which released it’s vocal cords through a single muffler on each side, now evolved into a dual muffler appearance on each side, which now puts the V-Four engine design in your face…….kinda. The more we looked at the Gen 2 Vmax over the past two years, the more we at PlanetVmax.com could appreciate the beautiful lines and styling ques that were applied to this evolution of the Vmax. Look at the bike from the side and you will see the little dash pod lid on the faux tank shell parallels the angle of the trailing edge of the rear fender. The exhaust mufflers with their dual round exits on each side parallel the dual openings on the front of the scoops……..kinda. We feel the factory missed on this one. Stock mufflers are too short for the bike with it’s near 68” wheelbase and stretched scoops. The angle of exit does not match the angle of the scoops relative to the frame and the diameter of the ends is too large, giving the stock mufflers a fat stubby, don’t give me a chubby, look.
There are two other aftermarket companies which I can think of which missed school on esthetic appeal day as well. Round or oval or similar sport bike canisters….match what on this hotrod ?? Triangulated mufflers match WHAT ? There is not a single edge on the Vmax. It’s design is ALL curves and rounded edges. AS PROUD AS THEY ARE OF THEIR PIPES, THERE PRICES REFLECT IT AS WELL. JUST THINK WHAT THEY WOULD CHARGE YOU IF THEY HAD TO SUPPLY YOU WITH FOUR MUFFLERS…..AND THEIR FOUR BADGES! Thanks guys. Makes designing the proper exhaust for THIS bike easier by check two more styling ques off the list.
The new MEGAMAX exhaust system from PlanetVmax.com spent a lot of time being 3-D modeled in house until Jon and Mike hit the mark knuckle to knuckle. The MEGAMAX system slips onto your stock front and rear head pipes and eliminates the 24# cat as well. We provide you with new mid-pipes, ceramic coated inside and out in a satin black finish. The FOUR “mega”-phones are also ceramic coated inside and out to resist corrosion and discoloration while giving you the added performance value of creating a heat barrier within the pipes to keep the exhaust gases accelerated for increased performance. The “other” aftermarket companies don’t give you this benefit. They are more concerned with slapping their big-arse logo badges on the side of the mufflers………..please. Once again I always hated that. I buy an exhaust for my bikes prior to manufacturing exhaust systems myself and always had the look of the bikes curb appeal ruined by a logo……in your face. We put pipes on our bikes not only for performance but to create a “look”, a styling. The exhaust sytem, like it’s contents, should flow smoothly and unrestricted front to back, down the side of the bike.
Our beautiful ceramic coated megaphones with unparalleled HAND BLENDED MERGE COLLECTORS (unlike the press formed ones of “others”) have a high-end 6061 billet aluminum end cap with a very discrete logo ball-end milled into the trailing edge, not even visible to you get up on the bike and certainly don’t compromise the esthetics in any way. The overall length of the mufflers stays forward of the axle, as it should, not out towards the end of the fender. “Ahh, I’m like so sure” said the Valley Girl. All four megs have 2.5” free-flowing baffle cores and when ordering the system you can purchase with either 2.5” exits for that “over the top” big block V-8 sound, or the lesser decibel 1.5” exit caps for the “under the radar” sound level. Some customers purchase with both sets so they have the option to be “quiet or riot” and change them out in about 15 minutes.
Getting back to the dead-nuts styling on these pipes, look at how they flow down the side of the bike and pull angles from the end of the fender, side of the seat and frame. The scoops pull similar angles forward. We measured the height of the front intakes of the scoops and matched that same dimension to the overall “stack height” of our megs as well. We also matched the diameter of the round intakes on the scoops with our exits on the megs. Saving the best for last, we gave the Vmax the signature the exhaust of a V-four should have.
